Merry Christmas

12.25.2011

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!
May you enjoy the time with your family and friends,
and remember the reason for the season.
Happy Holidays everyone!!

Gaga's Workshop

12.22.2011

Oh, Lady Gaga. Your antics and wardrobe choices often drive me insane, but nothing can deny the fact that you are incredibly talented, generous, funny, and creative. Since Barney's announced the collaboration with Lady Gaga, I just knew Gaga's Workshop would be the holiday attraction.

The workshop in Barney's was a very creative and elaborate space, filled with lots of Gaga-esque art pieces and (expensive, but for a good cause) merchandise. It was the windows however, that I completely loved; they were on a whole other level. The combination of art, music, and of course fashion, were done so well, and in true Gaga fashion, that no matter who passed by, fan or not, it was sure to bring on the "oohs and the ahhs."

Festive in the City

12.19.2011

I absolutely cannot believe Christmas is less than a week away! Since I had a final bright and early at 8am this morning (which I finished in a record 5 minutes), I decided I would head into the city after, to get a move on my holiday shopping.

While I was HIGHLY unsuccessful on the shopping front, everything and everyone in such festive moods, made the trip worth it all. As I was browsing the holiday market, this guy walking out the Union Square train station said it best : "There's no place like New York during Christmas." I couldn't agree more.

DIY Gift Ideas

12.13.2011

After taking a look at the calendar (LOLZ Christmas is like tomorrow,) I figured it was about time I get a move on with my Christmas shopping. For some reason this year, I have been a little stumped, but browsing Pinterest gave me an idea: why not DIY?

In my browsing, I came across some really awesome DIY idea's and just had to share them with you all. Besides being totally awesome, the majority of them are under $25 and can be finished in time for Christmas!
1. An Anthropologie-esque necklace is one chic statement piece; they won't believe its handmade!

2.  Make and personalize this leather journal for anyone on your list.

3. This license plate key holder is great to remember that first car or a flea market/travel find.

4. These monogrammed hand towels are super luxe, at a fraction of the cost.

5. This sunburst mirror looks straight out of a Pottery Barn catalog. Can you believe its just popsicle sticks?

6. Don't just give the same old tie, give one that's personalized

7. Map coasters are a great reminder of that last trip or hometown.

8. Some thumbtacks, canvas, and paint create a one of a kind wall hanging of their favorite quote or saying.
(Another great alternative is this DIY from ..Love Maegan)

And because I can't leave out the kiddies:
Fabric paint or an iron on applique on a onesie or tee shirt, make a one of a kind gift they'll always want to wear.

My Holiday Playlist

12.12.2011

Nothing gets me into the holiday spirit quite like some season appropriate music.

While I may lead you to believe that I only listen to A Charlie Brown Christmas by the Vince Guaraldi Trio, I do in fact listen to and enjoy other holiday songs. (No, that one is still not included on the list).

Here are 12 of my favorite holiday songs, to kick off the 12 days before Christmas (Well, Christmas Eve)!

Andy Williams

Kaskade and Late Night Alumni

The Enchanters

Frank Sinatra

Jose Feliciano

Dominick the Donkey
Lou Monte

The Christmas Song
Nat King Cole

Bing Crosby

Alvin and the Chipmunks

The Green Smoothie

11.30.2011

In a very strange way, the thing I look forward to most after the holidays, is the almost mandatory detox. What better time is there to recharge and cleanse? I am by no means hardcore about it, just no carbs, most dairy, sweets, wine, and, sigh, coffee for a few days. In its place, I eat lots of fruits and veggies, Red Mango, green tea, and the green smoothie.
I've only recently started drinking green smoothies, because I was hesitant as to how or what they would taste like. After much debate, I finally gave it a try, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! The combination of the fruit with the greens definitely helps it from tasting too green. Most importantly, I absolutely love how they work. Almost instantly I feel more energized, less bloated, and overall much healthier.

My basis for my green smoothie is always spinach (for my green), ginger and the juice from one lime.  Once I have those in the blender, I'll add in any other fruits that I have on hand, that I think are beneficial to my body's needs at the time. For this particular smoothie, I added papaya (great for cleansing your system) and pineapple. Thrown into a fancy glass, you forget its good for you.

While I tend to drink it periodically, I think I may up my green smoothie intake as the cold and flu season draws near. Can't go wrong with all those extra antioxidants!

What do you do to recharge your body?

Give Thanks.

11.24.2011

Of course I picked a Peanuts themed picture. As I drink my wine and bask in my food coma later, I will surely be watching "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and "Happiness is a Warm Blanket".
"May you count your blessings, and not your calories."

I hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Skipping Thanksgiving

11.14.2011

Happy Mundane Monday everyone! This weekend was thankfully another relaxing one, but I did have to use my brain to ponder one thing extensively:

Is it just me or has Christmas completely taken over?

Don't get me wrong, I love the holidays just like the next person, but what happened to enjoying each one as they come? Thanksgiving is a little over a week away, but already it is straight up Christmas overload.  While watching Pan Am, I saw this Walmart commercial where the family was at CHRISTMAS dinner. What in the... (I won't even discuss the reaction I had when I heard Auld Lang Syne playing)

I know it is all driven by making money, blahblahblah, but are people losing the real meaning of the holidays, and getting caught up in the hype and the superficial part of it? Or have I got it all wrong?

I did this post because I really want to get your feedback. So tell me: does it bother you that all the holidays are so rushed or does it not matter to you?

Merry Christmas
Feliz Navidad
Buon Natale
Frohe Weihnachten
Joyeux Noel

However you say it, may your day be filled with joy and happiness, and the love that can only be felt by being around the ones you love and who love you back.
Merry Christmas all xo!

Christmas in the city

12.22.2010

Tuesday meant the last of finals, and the beginning of winter break! Tuesday night was spent with family doing Christmasy things around the city. The first stop was to the tree at Rockefeller Center. I have lived in NY my entire life, and have only been to the tree ONCE! I will admit that walking out of 30 Rockefeller from the train station, I was a bit shocked at how tiny the tree was. The TV sure does add 10 pounds, or in this case, 10 feet.
Regardless, it was absolutely wonderful to see the tree and to be around all the people full of Christmas spirit.

I was half hoping to run into the one and only Andy Cohen, but had no such luck.

After the tree, it was off to the theatre at Madison Square Garden to see Cirque du Soleil's Wintuk.  All I can say is WOW. The set, scenery, artistry, and ability of the acrobats/gymnast was just astounding. It was absolutely amazing and at the end of it, there was snow! Lots and lots of snow! Pictures were technically not allowed, but this was too amazing to miss, so I whipped out my Blackberry (hence the graniness of the pictures):

"snow"

All in all. it was a great night out. I have a love/hate relationship with NY, but I sure don't mind it during the holidays.

Christmastime is here

12.13.2010

Today officially marks 12 days until Christmas. This could be looked at as procrastination to studying for finals, but for the most part its anticipation of the most wonderful time of year... I absolutely love the holiday season!
My little tree!

Dreaming of a white Christmas...or a blizzard to cancel finals

Charlie Brown is tradition. I play this soundtrack all season long, and watch A Charlie Brown Christmas while I wrap presents... and every time it happens to be on tv.

What gets you excited for the holiday season? Have any favorite traditions? Let me know :)

Walking in an Americana Winter Wonderland

12.04.2010

Thursday night, my good friend Owen and I took a walk around the Americana Manhasset, located on Long Island's North Shore. Walking around the Americana is one of our favorite past times, as we both love to admire the work that goes into the displays, and make wish lists of everything we love at stores such as Hermes. It is such an aesthetically appealing and amazing place, even if you don't shop, its just so nice to take it all in.
Every holiday I say I'm going to go around and take shots of the holiday lights and displays but never get around to it. This year, I have made it my mission to do so. Here are a few shots:

 Michael Kors

Tory Burch

Owen hands down is my most fabulous and fashionable friend. TDF.

Owen always leave me at this point because I am obsessed with RL kids and talk about dressing my kids in RL. That red/plaid outfit is so adorable for my future little daughter.
