NYFW Roundup/What I Want to Wear this Fall

2.18.2012

I'm always amused at how the fashion "cycle" works. Just as I am craving spring, NYFW comes along and has me looking ahead to fall. This season was a bit different as it gave me a whole lot more to fall in love with and (eventually) look forward to.

There were three things I absolutely loved this season. First off, COLOR! It was really nice to see traditionally spring colors like pastel pink, blue and lavender on the runway, in addition to the fall staples of emerald, royal blue and other jewel tones.

My next love was the return of the turtleneck! I feel like the turtleneck has been shunned in the last few years, and I'm not sure why. I have always thought of the turtleneck (in the right cut and fabric) as one of the most basic wardrobe essentials, as well as the best friend to a great statement necklace (ala Natasha Bedingfield.) I loved Doo.Ri's take on the style in the form of drapey dresses and tops.

Lastly this NYFW, I absolutely LOVED Christan Siriano's A/W12 collection. Oh me, oh my, it was an absolute dream. Because when I think of my dream wardrobe, it looks exactly like this collection. It's what I want to wear. Everyday. I need every piece in my wardrobe IMMEDIATELY (or as soon as fall rolls around.)

What were you most excited about this New York Fashion Week?

People Watching at NYFW

2.12.2012

With a few cancelled classes Friday, my scheduled opened up enough for me to head up to Lincoln Center and people watch with Gabriella. In general, I find people watching fascinating, but during Fashion Week it is truly something, both good and bad. The highlight (because there always is one) was seeing Tim Gunn. He was conducting an interview and even when he done, he was so sweet to everyone that came up to him, even though he was "late for work." Yes, I eavesdropped. But that's not the point...

On to the pictures! (click read more below)

NYFW S/S 2012 Roundup

9.17.2011

Just like that, yet another New York Fashion Week has come and gone. Even though its eight full days of fashion, fun and glamour, it just never seems to last very long!

Even though there is a slight chill in the air, (I think winter, not fall, is swiftly approaching), as I start to pack away some of my summer pieces, it is nice to know that many of them will transition nicely into spring/summer 2012.
Alice + Olivia
I love the fun, flirty, and oh so feminine mix that is Alice + Olivia.  It never ceases to amaze me how Stacey Bendet manages to capture so much versatility and variety in just one collection. While I know its not nice to play favorites, I absolutely love that short, champagne dress. Now for an occasion to wear it to...
Bill Blass
In or out on the runways, anything and everything nautical will always be a must have of mine for spring/summer. I love the way Bill Blass interpreted the traditional nautical styles by not using the standard navy and white, but black and white. A subtle twist, on an old and loved classic.

Victoria Beckham
When most designers are showing bright punches of color and pastels for the warmer months, Victoria Beckham goes against the grain and incorporate black and navy into her spring/summer collection. I loved the mix of structured and flowy pieces, as well as her super chic bags.

Diane von Furstenberg
I can't think of another time when I have seen white done so impeccably! From white to coral. and of course the prints, DVF had me wishing the weather was warming up again, not cooling down!

Since time doesn't allow me to include many of my other favorites, be sure to check out my tumblr, as I will be posting them at random. (Read, bored and confused in managerial math.) :)

People watching at NYFW

2.19.2011

When Fashion Week was at Bryant Park, I always wanted to go to take in the sights and sounds, but never got the chance to because I was either working a show not at the tents, or unavailable.

So Wednesday after class, I took the train uptown to Lincoln Center, to do some people watching around the tents with my friend and fellow blogger Amanda. Despite the cold, it was really fun to just be there and observe everyone going to and from the shows ever so quickly. I was however, able to spot one of the fashion editors from the New York Times, as well as Chiara from The Blonde Salad!

Ok enough of my rambling. Since this post is extremely picture heavy (I took over 150 pictures in less than two hours), it will be a "read more". I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!!!

NYFW F/W 2011 Roundup part II

2.18.2011

And just like that its all over! This week really flew by, but not without leaving its mark. Here are my favorite collections from the last half of NY Fashion Week:

Tracey Reese
Tracey Reese never fails to disappoint. Her collection represents everything I wish to wear as a sophisticated 20-something career girl. I loved the usual neutral color palette of gray and black, but with pops of color like hot pink and turquoise.

Carlos Miele
Where do I even begin?! From the colors, to the jumpsuits, to the fur, Mr. Miele, I adore you. I really do.  The lush fabrics ever so enhanced by the wonderful array of colors from cobalt blue, red, to orange. A headscarf is being added to my Fall shopping list (come September...now, we are all about Spring).

Alice + Olivia
The ultimate party girl collection. Everything about this collection was just fun and flirty. Sophisticated, with that subtle bit of sexiness. I love that lace is making an appearance for yet another season, and of course sequins. Stacey Bendit, you are a rock star.

Elie Tahari
Lets talk about DRAMA! I loved how the collection started out with these dramatic black pieces and then BAM! All white suit, with black leather gloves and fur, leopard print, and more fur. This collection was every bit the New York woman (or at least the one I envision in my head).

Isaac Mizrahi
I LOVE ISAAC MIZRAHI! Seriously he can do no wrong in my eyes! This collection had a fresh, fun Spring feel to it, while still being very much fall appropriate. Only Isaac can pull of having matching puppies and cakes to the clothes in his collection. Fashion, puppies and cake? Yeah, this was definitely my favorite show of Fashion Week.

NYFW F/W 2011 Roundup: Part I

2.15.2011

I cant believe we are already halfway through New York Fashion Week!

I'm glad that as the economy rebounds, designers feel less guilty about being a little extravagant. Their is definitely a shift from the minimalist designs of seasons past to more flair and fun. Because fashion should be FUN!

So here are my five favorite collections, that i am absolutely LOVING so far this Fashion Week. :
Tadashi Shoji
This collection had me absolutely speechless. I loved every, single, piece.  The cut, the colors, (so many beautiful colors in the Tadashi collection) the glamour! I absolutely NEED the last dress on the end.

Doo. Ri
I was so drawn to the light fabric and the color scheme in Doo.Ri's collection. I have never been much of a fan of turtleneck, but of course my mind has been changed! However, my absolutely obsession was with the dark teal color she presented in a number of pieces. Definitely one of the hot colors for fall.

Jason Wu
Jason Wu *sigh*. I loved the range in the collection of casual, day wear, to sophisticated evening wear. And the gowns! I need more occasions in my life that permit me to wear gowns like those.
I also really loved the pants, in the different cuts and rises. Looks like wide leg pant will be transitioning into fall as well!

Rebecca Minkoff
Love. Love. Love. Love. This collection is everything I could possibly ever want and dream of. I think I fell in love with it so much, because I could see myself wearing so many of the piece/it really represented my style. I mean leopard print and sequins?! You had me at hello.

Victoria Beckham
Design is truly Victoria Beckham's calling. She knows and understands the female form,  just what women want to wear, how they want their clothes to fit, as well as how they want to accessorize. This collection was fabulous, literally from head to Louboutined toe.

Now its your turn! What collections are you absolutely loving from NYFW?

NYFW Fall 2009: My new favorite designer, Tibi

2.20.2009

Video Fashion Daily has to be the most amazing thing in the world during Fashion Week. It has replaced my previous love Full Frontal Fashion on NYC TV, in bringing all the goings on of Fashion Week with runway shows, all the backstage hair and makeup tips and little tidbits from the designer as well as editors, buyers, and celebs.
I was just about to turn off the TV after the Badgley Mischka show last night, but Tibi caught my attention. I have always heard about Tibi, but never really focused on the collection like I do other collections. Theres nothing like VFD to change all of that! I AM NOW OBSESSED!! Every look was something I could see myself wearing and working easily into my wardrobe.

My favorite thing about Tibi has to be that there is something for everyone. From solids to prints, short dresses to long gowns, day to night. Everything is so wearable and versatile! I love anything that can be dressed up, or dressed down, and Tibi does all of that.  There wasn't one piece in the collection that I didn't love...I want ALL of it! Below of course, are my favorite looks from Tibi for Fall:
