Leading up to the new year, I think I did the most reflecting I've ever done in my entire life. In doing so I realized finally acknowledged and admitted something I have known my whole life: I can be my biggest road block in life. I sometimes put off things for more convenient times that never come, or don't try things for fear of failure or being out of my comfort zone. Enough is enough. The time is now to bring an end to the "shoulda, woulda, coulda's."
In lieu of the standard resolutions, I decided to try something else this year: 25 before 25. This list is comprised of the top 25 things that I've been meaning to do, dreamed of doing, put off, procrastinated, avoided, not planned enough, etc. Some (most) of them get me out of my comfort zone and others even terrify me. Things that once completed, I know will change me.
25 before 25:
1. Perfect the art of making macarons. I am determined to get them right.
2. Overcome my fear of heights with a trapeze class.
3. Go one month without shopping for clothes.
4. Do a typically "group thing" alone. Movies, lunch, etc.
5. Learn to sew.
6. Take my parents out to dinner.
7. Begin the conversational Italian class.
8. Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.
9. Hold plank for a full minute. Perfect form, no wobbling!
10. (secret)
11. Purchase personalized stationery. For sending thank yous and notes to those I've lost touch with.
12. Spend one full day doing only touristy things.
13. Wear something that is out of my comfort zone.
14. Go to the Top of the Rock or Empire State Building Observation Deck.
15. Make an entire three course dinner. With wine pairings and place settings.
16. Get a massage/have a spa day.
17. Attend a cooking class. (This sort of goes with #4.)
18. Take a group dance or fitness class.
19. Read 5 books from the BBC classics list.
20. Wear a two piece. I've worked hard for this body. I'm over muumuus!
21. Learn more about photography and buy a DSLR.
22. Do 25 push ups. Just like #9, perfect form with no wobbling!
23. Eat at 5 new places in NYC.
24. See Wicked on Broadway.
25. Buy my first piece of expensive jewelry. My birthday can come twice this year!
From today, I have 254 days until my 25th birthday. Challenge accepted.
What are your goals for the new year?
I have a little over a year until my 25th birthday. You've got me thinking I should make a list, too! One of my goals for 2013 is definitely to go on some sort of trip by myself. Preferably Europe, but I'd go for anything, really!

You should make one! And a trip would be doable since you have time!
DeleteNumber 21 is on my list, too! If only they werent so damn expensive!
ReplyDeleteI know :( I will make myself learn so that it will be worth it!
DeleteAlyssa!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I love your alternative to the Resolutions! There are so many things on your list that I would like to do too! So inspirational - thank you!

ReplyDeleteThank you Meri! Definitely need the luck. But I need to get started stat!
DeleteLove the quote at the beginning and your 25 by 25 ideas! I just turned 25 so it looks like I will need to do a 30 by 30! Ahh! :)

Thank you! It's weird I'm getting more crossed off my 30 before 30 than my 25 before 25!!!
DeleteI love this! I have 9 months until my birthday (in fact, exactly 9 months from tomorrow) and this might be something fun for me to do too. Plus, this would be a great way to get me back to blogging :) :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are numbers 1 (obviously, you know me!), 4, 10, 12, 16 and 20! Remind me to tell you about the macaron making class my mom and I went to :) :)
xx Nina
Start planning! xx
DeleteThis is a good list! I'd make my own but I only have 49 days. Maybe I'll make one and just do it for 26... oooh, the alphabet has 26 letters, maybe I'll make a list with things for each letter. Or maybe not, because I feel like that requires creativity.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think the alphabetized "26 before 26" is a really good idea and super creative! I think you can do it :)
