Always A Good Idea.

2.26.2013

I would describe Paris as my favorite place I've never been and lately it's all I can think about. It's a place I've always wanted to visit and a trip I've dreamed about taking for a very long time. I think it's time to make that dream of walking along the Champs-Élysées and through the Latin Quarter and The Marais, all the while exploring and eating my way through the city, a reality.

A trip this special requires lots of planning, planning that beings now. I have a few ideas already of what I want to do while I am there, so here's a look at some of my Paris to-do's.

The Eiffel Tower will be mandatory, both during the day and night.

Many a boulangerie and pâtisserie will be visited along the way, but I cannot visit Paris without having a macaron, and tasting for myself, who makes the best macaron in Paris. Is it LaduréePierre Hermé?

I've been well informed that The Louvre gets super crowded and that the Mona Lisa is not as big as one would expect. Still, I could not miss the opportunity to see artwork that I have studied over the years, out of a book and in reality.

Paris is truly a lovers city, and the Lovers Bridge is definitely an example of that.

Guaranteed, this trip will contain lots of shopping and a trip to 31 Rue Cambon is at the top of the list.
To shop and get a glimpse of the famous stairs where Chanel would present her collections would just make my little fashion heart flutter!

Again, this trip is just as much about the food as it is about the sights. Like macarons, le fromage is also a Paris food must, especially for those delicious cheeses that are banned in the US.

And this is only the beginning.  I cannot wait to be in The City of Light

  1. Ah! When are you going? Paris is such an amazingly beautiful city. I visited several years ago, but was only able to spend 3 days in the city. The trip that I am about to take, I will fly back through Paris, but again, will only be able to spend a mere 12 hours in the city :(

If I were to make any recommendations, definitely visit The Lourve (go first thing when it opens...the crowds aren't as bad). Go see the Moulin Rouge and Versailles.

Make time to go up inside Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe. Depending on the time of year that you go (I went in June), if you go to the Eiffel Tower around 9-9:30ish, you can enjoy its beauty during the daylight and once you have gone up and are coming back down, it is nighttime and the Tower is lit up in all its glory.

If you have the time, take a side trip to Bayeux and go visit Normandy. To see Omaha Beach is quite a sight...a quite humbling one actually.

I can't wait to hear about your trip and know that you will love each and every single second of your time there. :)

    1. Date is TBD! For some reason I would love to go for Bastille Day, but it's up in the air. 12 hours is still nice! But i know what you mean.

Thank you so much for your recommendations! I remember your posts about Notre Dame and Versailles!

Whenever it happens, I truly cannot wait!!

  2. Ohhhh how exciting! I'm glad you are finally going to get serious and plan your trip; I feel like so often we put stuff like that off, waiting for when we have more money or less going on at work or just a million reasons not to when you are forgetting the most important reason why you should.

Enjoy your planning, I'm sure it will be half (well, less than half) the fun!
