So the weather this past weekend? Just spectacular. The blue, sunny skies, and warm-ish temps, had me in the best mood and in the mood to get some spring cleaning done. Spring cleaning for me usual centers around my closet, discarding what I haven't worn/what I don't like and what doesn't fit. While I absolutely hate this type of cleaning, it becomes a win-win situation as clothing that no longer fits needs to be replaced with clothing that does. I love when the odds are in my favor!
Once I got started on my closet, there was no stopping. My dressers, storage closet, and even my little corner in my dad's office all got refreshed and reorganized. The last stop on my spring cleaning tour was probably the most important: my makeup drawer and everyday makeup bag. While I take very good care of my makeup, (sterilizing after each use, etc.) I have a tendency to keep makeup, that I don't like, and worse, has expired. I know, it's terrible and not to mention, gross.
I think the lip lacquer and gloss are at least 6 years old...
Like my closet, cleaning out my makeup means room for new products! One of my favorite things about discarding empties the Back to MAC program. If you're not familiar with it, MAC has a program where you bring in six empty MAC products and in exchange, you get a free lipstick (at the counter) or a free lipstick, eyeshadow, lip gloss (at a freestanding MAC store). These empties bring me to a total of 12 empties. Two free products!
Did you get any spring cleaning done this weekend? Are you good at cleaning out your makeup?
I clean out my makeup probably 3 times a year or so. If I don't use it or it's past its date, I throw it out. I can't believe some people use mascara that's a year old- yikes!
ReplyDeleteI have very sensitive eyes, so mascara is usually the first thing I toss! It's also why I stick to drugstore mascara, not high-end!
DeleteI went on a spring cleaning binge like this the other day, too! I try to clean out my makeup bags as often as possible (they get so grody!), but I'm SURE I don't throw products out as often as I should. Actually, I'm almost positive I don't haha
ReplyDeleteHaha I debated being that honest about the fact, but hey it happens!
Deleteso handy!! I need to tackle my makeup bag, asap!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found it useful! Makeup bag clean out can be a challenge in and of itself.

ReplyDeleteand the back to mac program is such a good perk!
Ahh wisdom teeth! That does not sound fun in the least! Hope he heals quickly! Cleaning out your makeup will definitely make the time go buy!
DeleteI spring cleaned over the weekend also! It feels so good to get organized and throw away all the clutter!
ReplyDeleteIsn’t That Charming.
Isn't it such a freeing feeling? Absolutely love it.
Deletei totally keep my make up way longer than that! Oh dear... I guess a clean out is in order.
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
Hahaha, right there with you! I'm always like "it's full and doesn't smell...must still be good!"
DeleteWhen I graduated college about a year ago and moved home I cleaned out my make up drawer and got rid of SO MUCH that was mostly from high school. Eek. Super old. Clearly if I didn't need to bring it all to college with me, I should have gotten rid of it a longgg time ago! And wow I didn't know liquid eyeliner needed to be replaced every 2-3 months! Uh oh. I guess its time for me to restock! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletego for the glam
Anytime! I totally remembering hauling all my makeup Freshman year and later being like what? LOL.
